William Arroyo, MD, is Medical Director of the Child, Youth, and Family Administration, Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH). He is Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Keck USC School of Medicine. He represents LACDMH in program development and policy implementation efforts in the children’s mental health arena at both the County and State levels. He is Principal Investigator of a SAMHSA funded project of a birth to 5 system of care in Los Angeles. He serves on several state and national advisory bodies including the California Commission on Juvenile Justice; the California (Prison) Rehabilitation Oversight Board, the statewide advisory group to the California Endowment about youth in the juvenile justice system, a board member of the Burns Institute which assists jurisdictions with efforts to reduce disproportionate incarceration of minority youth and the state advisory group to the CA Healthy Families program. He has also served on national advisory committees to national mental health technical assistance centers in Portland State University, Georgetown University, Columbia University and National Center for Juvenile Justice and Mental Health. He has been honored for his medical school teaching, work in mental health advocacy and his clinical work. He has publications in the mental health areas of psychological trauma, psychiatric ethics, school mental health, juvenile justice, and cross-cultural issues among others.
