VISION: Latino communities situated along the U.S. – Mexico border have full access to both preventative and treatment health services in a respectful and culturally competent manner.
BARRIERS: Border communities continue to experience deteriorating health due to environmental health problems (air and water pollution), and the general lack of public health resources/infrastructure to support significant population increases. The Border represents a unique combination of an international and local community. The diversity in ethnic groups and illness patterns found along the border creates unique challenges when describing major borther health issues. Mortality and morbidity figures, specific communicable and non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health issues, disability and deaths from trauma, mental health issues adn environmental issues are all areas of major concern.
CHARGE: To develop a strategic blueprint for border FQHC's and other key border stakeholders to improve access to care and eliminate disparities in access and health status. |
