VISION: The US Latino population, at more than 31 million, is the largest minority group in this country and their numbers are expected to reach more than 96 million in the next 50 years.  This reality, along with the health disparities faced by Latinos, highlights the need to promote research involving this population.  Without community-based research, Latinos are disadvantaged in policy-making, resource allocation, program planning and program implementation activities.

BARRIERS: There are too few Latino researchers or academicians focused on issues that affect Latino health. In addition, there is insufficient funding to support Latino research (community-based as well as other research.

CHARGE: Identify community-based research methods that address the unique cultural dimensions of the Latino community and identify strategies for community-based organizations to work collaboratively with research universities.
