If you have a medical emergency which requires immediate attention, always call 9-1-1. For medical care issues which don’t require immediate attention, San Ysidro Health has an Urgent Care Center located at 678 3rd Avenue, Chula Vista, CA, 91910. It has extended hours of service, Monday ~ Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Some clinic locations offer limited hours on Saturdays, as well. If I am a registered patient of a San Ysidro Health clinic, how can I obtain assistance after hours or for emergencies?
San Ysidro Health has extended evening and weekend hours to better meet your health care needs. SYHC’s Main Clinic and Chula Vista Medical Plaza – Urgent Care are open Monday through Friday until 8:00 p.m. On Saturday, the following primary care clinic sites are open:
- SYHC Main Clinic: 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
- Chula Vista Medical Plaza – Urgent Care: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- CHC Oceanview Clinic: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
In addition to these sites San Ysidro Health has “Mi Clinica”, located inside the Northgate-Gonzalez Market at 1058 3rd Avenue in Chula Vista. Mi Clinica specializes in minor illnesses and injuries only, and is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., plus Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Are you a free clinic?
We are not a free clinic. San Ysidro Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center offering high quality, affordable healthcare. If you have government-issued medical insurance, such as Medi-Cal, you may qualify for medical care at no cost to you. Otherwise, you can apply for our affordable sliding scale fee discount program, or request a self-pay payment plan. Regardless of your ability to pay, San Ysidro Health will work hard to meet your medical needs.
How can I apply for San Ysidro Health’s sliding scale fee discount program?
The sliding scale fee discount program offers affordable healthcare to our uninsured patients presently residing within certain qualifying Metro San Diego zip codes. The program is primarily based on family size and income. To apply, you must provide proof of address, such as your most recent utility bill, and proof of income, such as your most recent paycheck stub. For a complete list of qualifying documents and methods to receive access to significantly lower medical and dental costs, please ask a patient registration representative for further details.
I have private medical insurance through my employer. Can I still receive medical attention at San Ysidro Health?
Please call our Call Center at 619.662.4100 and ask if we currently are contracted with your private insurer. You may also ask any Certified Eligibility Specialist/(CES) or Patient Access Representative at any of our nearby clinic locations to confirm that your health plan in accepted at SYHC.
If I am receiving prenatal care at one of your health centers, will my baby be delivered in the same clinic?
No. Our doctors deliver babies at Scripps Mercy Hospital in Chula Vista. Please talk to your pregnancy coordinator for details.
Are language interpreters available during medical and dental appointments?
Yes. We have bilingual personnel who can help you with your language interpretation needs. Among the languages which our employees speak, other than English and Spanish, are Tagalog and Arabic. Please request a full list of languages for which professional interpreter services are available, prior to your upcoming appointment. Any San Ysidro Health Patient Access Representative positioned at your clinic’s registration desk can provide assistance with scheduling an interpreter for your appointment.
Are sign language translation services available?
Yes. For any of your upcoming appointments requiring sign language translation, please request scheduling assistance from any Patient Access Representative positioned at your clinic’s registration desk.
Can I receive medical or dental care services in Spanish?
Yes, most of our healthcare providers and health support employees are bilingual, able to speak English and Spanish. We want to make sure that you feel at ease while communicating with your health provider. If a bilingual provider is not available at the time of your appointment, we will make sure a medical or dental assistant is present to interpret for you.
Do I need to have Medi-Cal or another form of health insurance coverage in order to receive treatment at San Ysidro Health?
No. Although we accept Medi-Cal, Medicare, and other government-issued health plans, we also offer self-pay options for all of our registered patients. Regardless of your ability to pay, we can offer a discount program or payment plan that meets your needs.
Are there any discount programs for uninsured patients?
Yes. We have a very affordable sliding scale fee discount program for medical and dental services, which is offered to uninsured patients currently living within qualifying zip codes. Family size and income are also important factors for determining the level of your discount. Your medical office visits, for example, could be as low as $20. The sliding scale fee discount program also applies to certain lab services, X-rays, and medication. The applied discount terms are valid for up to six months, and can be re-qualified and renewed immediately following the term’s expiration date. Can someone help me to apply for Medi-Cal or other types of government-issued health insurance coverage?
Yes. Our attentive Care Advocates (also known, as Certified Eligibility Specialist – CES) can help guide you through the process of applying for Medi-Cal, LIHP, and other government-issued health insurance coverage and programs. Please make an appointment with the with them at the San Ysidro Health clinic located closest to you. They will be happy to assist you.
How can I apply for Medi-Cal?
Medi-Cal is a government-issued health insurance, not a San Ysidro Health funded program. Requirements to apply for Medi-Cal vary by certain factors, including age, immigration status, family size, and income. Please schedule an appointment with one of our Certified Eligibility Specialist/(CES) who can provide guidance for, both, where to obtain and how to fill out the required application(s), as well as where to submit the completed documents for final processing by The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency.
